If you know the 2019 book “Daisy Jones & The Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid, you may know the new show version of it, released on Prime Video as of March 3rd this year. Daisy Jones & The Six is the story of a fictional band of the same name. Interestingly enough, because of the success of the show, the actors are starting to play music together in the real world, somewhat like a real band, and some fans suspect that a real tour might be in the works.

Daisy Jones & The Six is currently just one season with 10 episodes that are 40 minutes to an hour long. Some may say the season is too short, or some may say that the episodes are too long, but from watching it I think either way it’s all worth the watch. One way that makes Daisy Jones & The Six a little unique, is that it is filmed in documentary style. It goes back and forth with the memories at the time of the band, with then their older and wiser faces reflecting off the feelings of those times circling through their head, it has a beautiful plot with meticulous aesthetics of the 70’s. Most modern shows haven’t been that good, there are times where they try to be relatable in a distasteful way or they aren’t accurate when putting it in a different era. This one being based off a famous book pushed with success, along with the album “Aurora” coming out makes it feel all the more authentic.

Aurora was released two days before the streaming of Daisy Jones & The Six. It gives you an idea of what this show goes through, and honestly the soft rock album is what made me – and many others,  I’m sure – want to see the background or visuals of these songs. For example the song “Please” has Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin) on vocals with the lyrics of his perspective on his affair with Daisy Jones. Although the events of this show are fictional, the care put into the songs and lyrics feel much deeper than your average work of fiction.

The show consists of love triangles, substance abuse, heartbreak, and the love for music. Within seven years out of the 1970’s, we see the band slowly yet surely begin to form, starting with the Dunne Brothers, Billy and Graham, along with their childhood friends and later Karen Sirko. Billy Dunne has a wife Camila Alvarez (Camila Morrone) who isn’t making the music but adds to The Six in Daisy Jones & The Six, considering her as a part of the band with the other five members behind the name Daisy Jones. Once Daisy Jones is added, Daisy Jones & The Six are starting to become world widely famous. But when they break up, decades later they are brought together to dig deep on how those seven years affected them and what their past brought them to.

Keep in mind this band is fictional, but makes you feel for them with the way the show is put together. Starting on that first episode, it opens up with all the members independently sitting down ready for an interview flashing to a black screen explaining “On October 4, 1977 Daisy Jones & The Six performed to a sold out crowd at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. They were one of the biggest bands in the world at the time, fresh off their award-winning multi-platinum selling album Aurora. It would be their final performance.”

The way Daisy Jones & the Six has been fabricated makes you really want to sit down and watch, reeling you in with many twists and turns, especially the end. I’ll leave that up to you if you want to figure that out! After reading this, I hope you will.
