For most of us, music is involved with our everyday lives, getting ready in the morning, heading to school, and sometimes even at school, with teacher-approved phone use of course. We here at Cavelero News got curious and wanted to know who was the most listened-to artist at our school. After interviewing people from all three lunches, we have gathered our data and are ready to share our findings. With over 100 interviews conducted 50% of the school listens to, Taylor Swift and Steve Lacy! 35% of people at Cavelero listen to The Weekend, Harry Styles, Tyler the Creator, and Mitski. The last 15% of people listen to multiple different and diverse genres, the most popular genres from Cavelero Mid High are pop and alternative music.

Although most predictions were correct, the surprising results came from the different varieties of answers provided by those who got asked the question, “Who is your favorite music artist? Or top 3?”. Everyone had their very own music artist that they listened to and appreciated. The main genres were pop and alternative music. It was really cool to go around and learn so much about a person just by learning about their favorite artists. It can tell a lot about someone and what they have been thinking and what they might even be going through at the moment. Music helps people connect to different parts of them that they may have never known were there in the first place.

Music is defined as, “vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.” in the Oxford Dictionary. Artists like Ed Sheeran, Steve Lacy, Taylor Swift, and The Beatles might be the most popular examples, but everyone has their own definitions of good and bad music; music that makes you wanna take risks, makes you feel euphoric, or overall just relatable. As students, we tend to find artists more interesting and enjoyable to listen to when they are more relatable.

More so in school, we’ve noticed genres in artists have evolved over years from pop as the most listened-to genre, to indie, alternative, and pop. The reason for this mainly, we think, is because the popular Social Media app, Tiktok, has increased these genres. TikTok as a platform causes specific songs that are mostly involved in these genres to become popular TikTok audios, those audios/songs expand across other platforms like YouTube and Spotify which then tend to have people extend their music taste towards new artists, which leads to new songs and new genres.

With all this, music taste in Cavelero Mid High spreads around through popular artists; Steve Lacy, Taylor Swift, and Kendrick Lamar. More upbeat music that causes adrenaline is usually listened to the most in Cavelero, in a few months these results are to stay the same or bound to change the more Tik-Tok trends are created which are used to create new uprising audios that are soon to be trending amongst Spotify which will cause their artist to become more popular.
