Top 5 things to do in Lake Stevens this summer

Savana Geary, journalist

With the school year coming to an end and summer beginning in a couple of weeks, it’s going to be warmer and nice out, so you’ll most likely want to be outdoors more. Here are the top five things to put on your to-do list when summer occurs:

The Farmer’s Market

The Lake Stevens Farmer’s Market opens Wednesday, June 1st in downtown Lake Stevens. In early 2020, people started requesting management of a farmers market, and it was met with such success that they decided to make it a regular occurrence. The items at the farmer’s market include handcrafted or organic items, ranging from fresh flowers, honey, jewelry, various types of meat, bags, hats, fruit, candles, and many more things.

Aquafest

After 2 years of Aquafest being unavailable due to Covid, it’s making a return this summer! Aquafest is a carnival in the town of Lake Stevens each summer and is meant to celebrate the culture and traditions of Lake Stevens. Aquafest has many different events and even a parade! It’s always the last weekend of July and this year it’s the 60th anniversary! Depending on your height and age, they also have many carnival rides that you can go on throughout the day, along with a variety of different tents set up where you can buy food, drinks, or items for when you’re feeling drowsy.  Many teens from Cavalero will be going and I’m sure you’ll see some of your friends. You can purchase your wristband now for a discounted price of $22, or you can buy it on the day of the festival for $29.

North Cove, Davies, or Sunset

Since it’s going to be really hot outside, it will be the perfect time for swimming. You and your friends can go swimming in all the different areas around the lake. There are many different spots to swim but my favorites are called T-dock, or North Cove located downtown. It’s my favorite because the water isn’t too deep and there are docks along with ladders for when you jump off the dock.  Besides swimming, you could Kayak, float on floats, paddleboard, etc.

Go on the Centennial Trail

If you and your family or friends are ever bored and want to go on a walk or get some exercise, the Centennial Trail is a great, safe place to ride bikes, walk, run, skateboard, etc. The trail extends for 30.5 miles, going through Lake Stevens and Snohomish. It’s way off to the side so you won’t have to worry as much about being close to the road, and the trail is pretty wide so you along with other people will have your own space. On your walk or whatever you decide to do there are a lot of things, you could see on the way, like the community park or gas stations. If you need a snack or water, you can leave the trail whenever you want as well.

Kalikis Hawaiian Shaved ice

I’m sure plenty of people have heard of or had shaved ice, but for those that haven’t, shaved ice is made from ice shavings and flavored syrup on top. They have a huge variety of different flavors for everyone’s preference, you can add multiple flavors or even add ice cream to your shaved ice. There are plenty of different sizes and variations. It’s located in uptown Lake Stevens and you can eat inside or take it to go!

In conclusion, I hope you and your friends and/or family get some ideas for enjoyable activities to do this summer with all of the nice weather coming up! There are many more exciting activities you can do this summer. These are just some I thought people would enjoy.
