A closer look into National Junior Honors Society
May 2, 2022
Once a month on the second Tuesday of every month, you can expect to see the National Junior Honors Society in the library having a meeting about the logistics that goes on behind the club. At the beginning of the school year selected students at Cavelero Mid High received an email sent to their inbox. Some people chose to take this opportunity that the email presented, and others chose to decline. Though this article is going to highlight the students who decided to join the NJHS club. Many people have heard of the NJHS, but many people don’t have an idea of what happens on the inside.
The way into NJHS is by getting an invite through email about participating. Though there are some requirements. One of them being having a 3.5+ GPA, another being participating in 4 hours of community service, and having to participate in one project for NJHS. Ninth grade NJHS member Aubi Linington says they joined because “colleges like to see it as well as the volunteer experience is very good for me.” Another 9th grade NJHS member said “ I like NJHS because it makes me feel like I am part of the community.” Many of these students decided to participate because they just wanted to help the community and make their college applications look that much better.
Participating in NJHS means that you have to show up to meetings. Though what are all the meetings about? Ninth grader NJHS member Chloe Schweizer says “most of the time we talk about our service projects and what the community might need…” The NJHS team is all about serving the community. However serving the community can be a challenging task, and because of this talking is a crucial part of NJHS.One 9th grade student at Cav says “…because of all the project and details there happens to be a lot of talking…” NJHS not only teaches students how to be good contributing members of society but also the members have fun while they are doing it. Some of the club members describe the club as nice because it is easy to find friends and have fun while working.
All NJHS members know that they will be participating in service projects to make the community a better place. Many members have different roles and projects. One project they have been doing this year is tutoring. Members from NJHS come in after school and help fellow classmates with homework. Another project members can take part in is beautification of the school. Swiezer said “ I personally want to take part in the teen in transition project, it feels like a very important project to take part in. Though we still need to figure out how we will do it.”
Overall after taking a closer look into the club NJHS is a good place for people to build their high school experience. The NJHS club works to serve the community and teach high schoolers how to do just that. Students can become more well rounded and have fun experiences with friends in the midst.
