Do You Agree With Students Having Wednesdays Off From School?

Students should have Wednesday off just like Asynchronous Wednesday when students had during Online Learning. This is really beneficial as I experienced online learning back in 2020, and asynchronous Wednesdays were always great opportunities to either catch up on work and turn in missing assignments or rest to recharge for the next two days. This really improved my mood and helped me be less stressed about school work.

Having Wednesday’s off would be beneficial to both students and teachers, as it would provide more time to turn in or fix late work and more time to manage responsibilities. Many students would be delighted for Wednesdays being off, taking full advantage of a day to rest and catch up on school work. Research has discovered that taking Wednesdays off could help you restore your charge is better than taking Friday off for a long weekend, according to Reader’s Digest. “Everyone has a different chronotype,” said Dawna Ballard, an expert of chronemics, which is the study of time and communication. Taking Wednesday off would be better than Friday because students can be more motivated on Mondays and Tuesdays and on Wednesdays it’s a recharge day where students can finish up some work or can be just a day off. After Wednesday is over and students had time to recharge, students can give it their all on Thursday and Friday as well. Friday wouldn’t be a good day to take off as it would be a day for students to slack off, considering they may say, “I have Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, I can do my work later.” Although a 3 day weekend always sounds enticing, not many students will get their work done if this became a regular occurance, and might slack off by doing something else that’s not related to school work.

Some people might disagree with students having Wednesdays off because some said, why do they need extra holidays? Wednesday holds the week together. Putting a holiday in the middle of the week does not make sense. Add this to the fact that high schoolers have more to study and need extra working days to cover the syllabus. Overall the suggestion doesn’t consider the stress that has resulted in students having a five-day week. Though it might be true that high schoolers need more working days to cover the syllabus I also disagree. I disagree with this perspective as Wednesday would not be considered a holiday for students, it would be a day to catch up on work, study and catch up on sleep. Students would also be motivated for Thursday and Friday and won’t be stressed about assignments. A study shown by Dawna Ballard, an expert of chronemics suggests giving students an extra day off improves learning. It could also be a step in the right direction for teacher workloads. Teachers as well will benefit from Wednesdays being off from school since it can give them a quiet day to work on their workloads. Teachers can develop their lesson plans and grade assignments.

Overall I think students should have Wednesday off from school since it can improve learning, teachers have time to work through all of the students ‘ work, students have time to recharge their bodies, and it improves teachers and students’ moods.
